There are close to 80 to 100 million domestic and migrant workers in India.
This translates to about 300 million people when you include their families. They are the lowest in the urban chain and are in a perpetual cycle of economic malnutrition, which extends to their children as well due to a lack of basics in education, health, financial stability, and literacy.
They and their families continue from generation to generation providing the foundations of growth for India but are not inclusive in that growth.
Unlike in other countries, there is no minimum wage, job security, education, life insurance, or health provisions.
They serve India at large through a variety of jobs which enable the rest of India to have a GDP growth that is the envy of the world but these themselves as Indians do not witness the benefits of this GDP growth.
In fact, it could be said that their growth is negative and they have sadly become the new modern free servants of India. Banks don’t lend to them, so they get loans at high-interest rates from chit funds or some
Microlenders as and when they need to and this actually results in enhancing the vicious cycle of economic dependency.
Their children are left in the villages without any real education planning or healthcare planning. This segment of India sadly also does young and without any provisions of savings or life insurance benefits.
We have to challenge the established practices that prevail and ensure that this segment gets economic liberty and parity with the rest of us and there is a drive to get their children educated so that they have the ability and choice to go into more productive vocations.
However, to achieve this we need to look at the problem and solutions both holistically and in microcosms of detail on three fronts.
- Financial
- Education
- Policy
goGopalgo with BaijuFinance has embarked on a project which we hope will be ongoing for years to come.
We are working with subject matter experts to create a new credit score system for this community of fellow Indians which enable and empower this community to achieve financial liberty and parity with the rest of India.
Prudent lending and prudent borrowing for certain needs whereby this credit score will also allow them to access health and life insurance.
The second aspect of goGopalgo is to liberate and empower the children of this community through education.
Getting these children adopted by the employers of their parents to educate them and empower them to get to college, thereby ensuring that they can move up the ladder and extrapolate themselves and their families from future economic enslavement.
Working with this community and their employers as well as authorities to have sponsorship schemes in place to allow for modern education to be distributed widely.
Come join hands with us, to build a financially stable and educated society where all our fellow Indians are part of the growth of our wonderful India. The future starts today
Thank you.
